Statistical programming grant winners 2022

November 2022 Tools & Resources

Each year, the Statistics & Methodology Platform runs a competition for statisticians in the SCTO’s CTU Network to develop codes or programmes that will ultimately help improve clinical research and bring fresh solutions to persisting difficulties. The winners of the 2022 competition are Dr Marco Cattaneo and Dr Alan Haynes.

Dr Marco Cattaneo from the Department of Clinical Research (DKF) Basel and Dr Alan Haynes from the CTU Bern won the 2022 grants for the following statistical programming packages:

corre by Marco Cattaneo

The R package corre will allow for user-friendly implementation of correlation analysis with random effects. The main focus is the global correlation coefficient, with random effects considered as a nuisance to be taken into account in the analysis. A central aim of the package is to produce confidence intervals and p-values through multilevel bootstrapping.

redcaptools by Alan Haynes

redcaptools is an R package which provides tools for exporting data from REDCap and preparing them for analysis. Using just a few lines of code, data can be exported by form, converted to the appropriate type (e.g. date or factor), and labelled. Thanks to this package, programmers will save time for more important tasks.

The statistical programming competition is run by the SCTO’s Statistics & Methodology Platform.
