The SCTO Education Platform’s Seminar series: Facts and pitfalls of observational studies - How to plan and conduct HRO projects, has successfully concluded its second round, attracting enthusiastic and engaged participation from the clinical research community!
The first session BASEC – A practical walk-through for HRO projects, held on 11 September 2024, attracted more than 110 participants. Even experienced users found the session insightful, and the overwhelmingly positive feedback highlighted its value for all levels of expertise.

The second session, entitled Mastering Consent: Key insights into general and informed consent for HRO projects, was followed by over 160 participants. This session began with a concise ethical and regulatory overview, followed by detailed insights and practical tips on consent requirements for HRO Chapter 2 and 3 projects. Audience questions were abundant and have been addressed in a dedicated Q&A document

The third session on Data sharing and open research data – details for HRO projects, held on 13 November 2024, was organised in collaboration with the Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN). It focused on key practices, opportunities, and essential knowledge related to data storage and sharing. Attended by approximately 120 participants, the session offered valuable insights into SPHN initiatives and included practical examples from the University Hospital Basel (USB).

The fourth session, Sample Management and Biobanking, was held on 4 December 2024 in collaboration with the Swiss Biobanking Platform (SBP). Nearly 120 participants attended this session, which was divided into two parts. The first part focused on practical, regulatory, and ethical considerations, enriched with real-life examples, while the second part provided an overview of SBP’s services and tools to support biobanking efforts
